Frequently asked questions

Everything about connecting your EG4 system, reading your data, alerts, and FourScoped Pro.

🚀Getting Started

How do I connect my EG4 system?

Go to Settings (gear icon in the nav bar) and enter your EG4 Monitoring Portal username and password — the same credentials you use at monitor.eg4electronics.com.

Click Connect and your inverters will be discovered automatically. Once found, click Save Systems to link them to your account.

What inverters are supported?

FourScoped works with any EG4 inverter that appears in the EG4 Monitoring Portal — including the EG4 18KPV, 12000XP, 6500EX, FlexBOSS21, and parallel systems. Both single-inverter and multi-inverter (parallel) setups are supported. If your inverter shows up in the portal, it works here.

Can I connect more than one system?

Yes. All inverters under your EG4 Monitoring Portal account are imported automatically. For parallel systems (e.g. two FlexBOSS21 inverters wired together), FourScoped aggregates them correctly into one system view. If you have multiple properties with separate EG4 accounts, contact support.

I skipped the EG4 step during onboarding. How do I connect later?

Head to Settings at any time. Enter your EG4 Monitoring Portal credentials and click Connect — your systems will be discovered without needing to redo onboarding.

How do I switch between multiple systems?

Use the system selector in the center of the top header bar. Click it to see all your linked systems and select one to switch. All dashboard views immediately update to that system's data.

How do I switch between light and dark mode?

Use the ☀️/🌙 toggle pill in the top-right corner of the header. Your preference is saved and persists across sessions. Light mode is the default.

📊Dashboard & Data

How often does the data update?

Your system is polled approximately every 4–5 minutes. The Overview page reflects the most recent snapshot. If you haven't seen an update in a while, set up a "No Data" alert on the Notifications page — it fires after a configurable number of minutes without new data.

What does each power flow number mean?
  • Solar (PV) — Current solar panel output in watts or kilowatts.
  • Battery — Charging (positive) or discharging (negative). SOC shown as a percentage.
  • Grid — Importing from the grid (positive) or exporting to it (negative).
  • Load — Total power your home is consuming right now.
Why does my grid reading sometimes look wrong?

If you have a GridBoss (midbox) device, FourScoped uses that for grid and load readings since it measures both split-phase legs for a more accurate whole-home view. Without a GridBoss, readings come directly from the inverter and may undercount two-phase loads. Contact support if values seem consistently off.

📈Charts

What time periods can I view in the Charts page?

The Charts page has four time views:

  • Day — Full 24-hour power history in 4–5 min intervals, plus a Battery SOC strip chart below. Click the date label to open a date picker.
  • Month — Daily energy totals for any calendar month since installation.
  • Year — Monthly energy totals for any year.
  • Lifetime — Yearly totals for the full system history.
What do the positive and negative values on the chart mean?

The chart uses a signed convention to show energy sources vs. sinks on one axis:

  • Positive (above zero): Solar production, battery discharge, grid import
  • Negative (below zero): Home consumption, battery charging, grid export

This lets you see at a glance where power is coming from and where it's going on a single chart.

What is the MPPT string chart?

When you select a single inverter in Day view and it has multiple active PV strings, a Solar Strings — Per MPPT chart shows PV1, PV2, and PV3 individually so you can see if one string is underperforming. MPPT data is available when a specific inverter is selected.

What is Hyper Mode?

Hyper Mode is an advanced diagnostics view that pulls every raw metric your EG4 inverters report — per-string voltage and power, battery cell voltages and temperatures, grid and EPS readings, and more — and lets you chart any of them over up to a week with zoom, scroll, and multi-inverter overlay.

🔔Notifications & Alerts

What kinds of alerts can I set up?
  • 🔋 Battery SOC above or below a threshold
  • ⚡ Live solar production above or below a watt threshold (daylight hours only)
  • 🏠 Home load exceeding a threshold
  • 🔌 Grid import or export exceeding a limit
  • 🚫 Grid offline (detected via inverter status)
  • 📭 No data received in X minutes
  • ☀️ Today's total solar yield above or below a kWh target
  • 🔋 Battery charging or discharging rate above a threshold
How are notifications delivered?

All alerts are sent to the email address on your FourScoped account. Each rule has a configurable cooldown so you don't get spammed — the minimum between repeat alerts is configurable from 15 minutes to 24 hours.

What are digest emails?

Digests are scheduled email summaries — not real-time alerts. You can enable:

  • 📅 Daily — yesterday's summary each morning
  • 📅 Weekly — last week's summary every Monday
  • 📅 Monthly — last month's totals on the 1st
  • 📅 Annual — last year's totals on January 1st

Pro Plan & Billing

What features require a Pro plan?
  • Charts — historical power flow graphs, monthly/yearly production totals
  • Battery — detailed per-unit battery health and BMS data
  • Notifications — custom real-time alert rules and email delivery
  • Digests — daily, weekly, monthly, and annual email summaries
How do I upgrade to Pro?

Go to Billing (gear icon → Billing). From there you can start a Pro Annual or Pro Monthly subscription via Stripe. Your plan upgrades instantly and all Pro features unlock right away.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. Go to Billing and cancel anytime. You keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period.

⚠️Limitations

Does FourScoped work with non-EG4 inverters?

Not currently. FourScoped connects specifically to the EG4 Monitoring Portal API. Support for other manufacturers is on the roadmap.

Can I control my inverter settings from FourScoped?

No — FourScoped is read-only. It reads data from your inverter but sends no commands and changes no settings. To adjust inverter settings, use the EG4 Monitoring Portal directly.

Is my EG4 password stored securely?

Yes. Your EG4 credentials are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM — the same standard used in banking and secure messaging. The encryption key lives exclusively in our server environment and is never in the database, so a database dump alone would be useless.

Credentials are decrypted in memory only at poll time, are never logged or cached in plaintext, and are never shared with any third party beyond authenticating with EG4 on your behalf.

🔐Account & Privacy

Does FourScoped use or share my data?

FourScoped may use anonymized, aggregated system data — such as production patterns — internally to improve the product. This data is stripped of all identifying information before analysis.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or system data with any third party. Your EG4 credentials are used solely to authenticate with the EG4 portal on your behalf.

How do I change my email or password?

Use the Forgot Password flow on the login page to reset your password. For email changes, contact us.

How do I delete my account?

Contact us to delete your account. Deletion removes all data including systems, snapshots, alert rules, and notification history. This is permanent and cannot be undone.

Where can I report a bug or request a feature?

Use the contact form. We read every submission and prioritize bugs and popular feature requests.
